Khotyk

Multilayered complex Khotyk is located in the basin of the river Uda (Western Transbaikalia), on the right bench of river Ona. The archaeological object was studied in 1998–2005 by archaeological expeditions of the Byruyat Scientific Center of SB RAS under the direction of Lbova L.V.

The earliest complex with objects of personal ornamentation corresponds with ensembles of levels 3 and 2 located in the middle part of the section dated by Karginian time (from 25 to 45 thousand years BP). The collection of personal ornamentation is varied - fragments of bracelets, rings, pendants, beads made of stone and mollusk shells.

The basis of the industry is the technique of parallel splitting, cores with a transition to an additional front at the end, large elongated blades, and a diverse assortment of tools. This technology is similar in characteristics to the blade industries of the Initial Upper Paleolithic of Central Asia. The tool set is characterized by a combination of Middle Paleolithic types of tools, with a rather high index of the Mousterian component. Planigraphy of habitation’s horizons are marked by concentrations of artifacts with clear boundaries or concentrations confined to stone structures, storage pits, a zone with traces of the ritual activity complex.
